America's Backyard

America's Backyard

America's Backyard, it turns out, is nothing short of a huge pool party where the pool is swimming with bartenders and the deep end overflows with sparkling alcohol.
Ed & Elaine's Tiki Hut

Ed & Elaine's Tiki Hut

There's no door, no sign, no cash register — just a thatched-roof hut decorated with bric-a-brac and a couple of tables nestled right on the shore of the Intracoastal, hidden just south of the Dania Beach pier.
Round Up

Round Up

This good-ol'-boy bar is a needle in a haystack off 595 in the back of a strip mall. But don't be fooled by the suburban-sprawl exterior; this place is all Texas heart on the inside.

    Jake's

Jake's is nothing short of a cozy, relaxed, locals-friendly bar that seconds as a venue with a ministage and a stripper pole. Along Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Jake's is divided into two rooms: the main space (well-lit and airy with pool tables and seating areas), and the bar (darker, comfortable, and featuring two TVs that show sports and various CBS dramas). Happy hour is pretty standard, running from 4 to 8 p.m. seven days a week, with $3 well drinks and $2.50 for domestic drafts. An electronic dartboard sits on a narrow wall next to the bathrooms, and the jukebox pumps out pop hits by Phil Collins, the Eagles, and Shaggy. MI-VI Nightclub at Gulfstream Park & Casino

901 S. Federal Highway Hallandale Beach, FL 33009
    954-457-6464

http://www.mi6ent.com Prevailing economic forces would have you believe that you shouldn't spend money you don't have; that if you're not a rock or rap star, you shouldn't party like one. But there's another way to treat this moment in history: as an opportunity. It separates the true players from the pretenders. MI-VI in Gulfstream Park is a leap of faith in the resilience of South Florida's playa population. And we're happy to report that on a recent Saturday night, the foyer was totally jammed with slick-dressed revelers, all elbowing one another for the chance to get past the doorman, then to pay $13 for a splash of liquor. The club, on the second floor of Gulfstream Park's entertainment complex, opened in January. It's decked out with chandeliers, tables, and chairs that look like they were swiped from the castle of a French dauphin. The music somehow manages to sound crisp in a club space that could otherwise be an airplane hangar, which suggests that performances from the stage will also enjoy fine acoustics. Decadence isn't back as a South Florida trend, but it is within the walls of MI-VI. Read more about this Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach bar or club >>
