http://www.grandcentralmiami.com The Garret is a secret hideaway club within downtown indie hot-spot Grand Central. It has its own side entrance (use 7th street), and a steep flight of stairs, so watch your footwork. The bar is dark, the drinks are cold, and the intimate room hosts artists and DJs well into the early morning. More >>
http://www.georgesmusic.com A few years back George’s Music took over the mall store formerly known as Mars Music. Then moved on to a larger--i.e. better location. Even with the store upgrade, the sales reps are a lot less pushy than they used to be in the Mars days. You can actually walk from one section to another without some sales shark breathing down your neck. One thing that hasn't changed, though, is the extensive selection of music gear, from guitars (Fender Telecaster, Squier Telecaster), amplifiers (VOX Valvetronix AD100VT), drums (Tama kits), and digital mixers, as well as plenty of microphones, cables, recording software, and every accessory you'll need for the stage or studio. All right, so maybe there aren't any pyrotechnics. But that's for your own good. More >>
http://www.geronimosbar.com It's not uncommon to find Geronimo's packed at the end of the workweek. You'll find the same crowd during happy hour as you'll find stumbling out at 2 in the morning. Geronimo's is one of those rare neighborhood bars whose regulars aren't crusty, chain-smoking curmudgeons. Young professionals and younger college students from nearby Nova, BCC, and ITT arrive in small groups and almost simultaneously let loose a sigh of relief: Beer, booze, and 35-cent chicken wings! Gerri's in Margate looks fairly small from the outside, but once you get inside, you see it's surprisingly large. The bar is front-and-center, with darts on one wall and a pool table a bit farther away. Locals flock to this joint afternoon and night to have a few beverages and poke fun at one another. Gerri's philosophy is "every hour is happy hour," and the bar makes good on that with daily specials, including $1 bottles and $2 domestic drafts. The regulars are not shy about kicking back several shots of their favorite, Jägermeister. More >>
http://www.gingerbaycafefl.com Ginger Bay Café is known for its smooth Caribbean vibe, featuring tunes as spicy as the jerk chicken. With live music five nights a week, you've got several options to choose from. Wednesdays at the Bay is "dance hall night." Thursdays feature soca and calypso music. Round out the weekend with reggae on Friday and Saturday nights, and wind down to jazz on Sundays. Ginger Bay Café is the only Caribbean restaurant in downtown Hollywood, so where else would you go to satisfy your craving for good times and island food? This late-night club-crawl stop-off point serves spicy jerk chicken, whole fried fish, and potent-as-hell rum drinks. Not the kind of place for quiet dinner conversations and soft lighting, this lively Caribbean hangout comes equipped with DJs blaring reggae, hip-hop, and R&B and live bands playing into the wee hours. For nearly six decades, Gold Crown has been a laid-back refuge for Hollywood billiards enthusiasts looking to hang out and shoot a few games. You're welcome here whether you're a seasoned regular or a novice. And if you classify yourself as the latter and would like to climb up a few rungs, you're in luck. Gold Crown offers lessons as well as a friendly atmosphere. More >>
http://www.grandcentralmiami.com This midsize live-performance venue has a killer light show and sound system. The open warehouse-like space in downtown Miami includes a stage, plenty of dance floor, a range of seating options, and an outdoor area. Management procures buzz-worthy underground indie acts from around the world. More >>
http://www.greenroomlive.com The multilevel Green Room is the latest addition to the America's Backyard/Revolution family, providing the downtown Fort Lauderdale locale with a unique nighttime hangout. Although chic in décor with white leather couches, fancy lighting systems, and Marie Antoinette-style chandeliers, the attitude is far from that of red-velvet roped-off club. An enormous dance floor fills up the center of the club where the local hip 20-somethings gyrate to indie sounds and electro beats. Adjacent is the stage, often filled with musical acts from the local area, and the occasional burlesque troupe performance by the Reckless Dames. Newly installed is the venue's art gallery, a place for South Florida's up-and-coming artists to showcase their talent during weekly event "Gallery Saturdays." Focusing less on the VIP club concept, the Green Room is Fort Lauderdale's answer to a laid-back night of good times and dancing with friends. More >>
http://www.gusmancenter.org Old is the new new. Especially in a city like Miami, where historic charms are often bulldozed to make way for new school crap. Thank God for the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, a shining beacon to Miami's glamorous past, smack dab in the middle of downtown. Erected in 1926 as a home for silent movies, this recently restored palace oozes charisma, from the red velvet curtains to the baroque balconies. The theater's simulated night-sky ceiling has looked down on the likes of Elvis Presley, B.B. King, Luciano Pavarotti and countless other notable names. Today, they host movie screenings, concerts, live performances and a whole host of other events. So get glammed up and spend an evening immersed in what once was. There's something to be said for the classics, after all. More >>
