http://www.johnnyvlasolas.com In his decadelong run as one of South Florida's most praised practitioners of New American cuisine, Johnny Vinczencz has been nicknamed everything from "The Caribbean Cowboy" to "The Guava Gaucho," but his food is always recognizable by familiar flavors rooted in our country's regional cuisines -- just disguised a bit with worldly-wise additions and daring dashes of gastronomic ingenuity. Witness his robustly comforting sage and rosemary chicken cooked confit-style, paired with white truffle Yukon mashed potatoes. Or with baked tubers filled with truffled sour cream, melted manchego cheese, and piquant chilaca chili. A lounge area in back allows diners to indulge in predinner and late-night grazing from a tapas menu. Johnny V's service is solid, staff attitude just right, wine list extensive, cuisine top-notch. Don't worry about what to call the chef; just call for reservations. More >>

http://oth.offthehookahfl.com Off the Hookah is Las Olas Riverfront’s dance club, hookah lounge, and waterfront dining wrapped up in one sexy, Egyptian-themed venue. Vegas-style flair bartenders serve the drinks, belly dancers arouse the onlookers, and the Mediterranean and sushi menu tantalizes the taste buds. There are cabana beds throughout the venue; thus, you can ask someone to go to bed without having to go home. Or ask a cutie to munch on the Mediterranean platter and share a banana/honey-flavored hookah (not hooker, wiseguy!). Also, there are drink specials during happy hour, ladies’ night, and college night to keep the party going. More >>
http://www.radio-active-records.com Formerly known as CD Collector, this friendly neighborhood record store changed its focus when it changed its name. Now Radio-Active Records, the store has a wide selection of new and used vinyl and a sampling of CDs, instead of vice versa. Along with that change, Radio-Active has more than doubled its size. The new area in the back houses rows of vinyl and a stage. Local bands and out-of-towners with indie cred find their way to the small performance space almost every week. What will a show cost you? Nada. They're always free. Show your thanks by picking up a record. After all, you'll be hard-pressed to find something that doesn't suit your tastes as the selection ranges from current music to electro to rare grooves. Psss make good with the staff. A lot of the good stuff is in the back. More >>
http://www.jointherevolution.net Formerly the Chili Pepper and before that the Edge, this spot has hosted some of the best bands to come through South Florida. The three levels (floor, balcony, and upper balcony) allow for ample standing room to watch your favorite bands. The décor is reminiscent of socialist propaganda (viva la Revolution!), but it's a little more subtle than Palm Beach County's indie-rock staple Propaganda. Drinks will cost you, but the atmosphere, standing room, and powerful air conditioning more than make up for it. More >>
Sonny's Stardust Lounge is an institution around these parts. Creative types have inhabited its dark corners, rockers have frequented the punk shows that owner Sonny Scott used to host, and many a country line dancer has do-si-doed her way across the dance floor. Never been there? You'll surely recognize it as the imposing, sometimes ominous-looking, two-story white building off Powerline in Fort Lauderdale. Loads of offbeat blues and country acts have come through Sonny's over the past 30 years, and the jukebox, fittingly, avoids the Billboard charts. (Ask Sonny about his time as a country-music star.) Walk inside and the décor looks like it hasn't been changed since it opened, complete with retro-rific diagonal mirrors and '70s-era wood paneling. You'll be hard-pressed to stand; there are tables and seats everywhere. This comes in handy when you watch the gems Sonny shows on his big-screen projection TV. More >>
http://www.ftlcollective.com/tag/swarm-warehouse/ At Swarm, which pops up every few months, there are no special invitations, dress-code requirements, overpriced cover fees, or strict rules to abide by. As event organizers Black Locust Society says, "Come one, come all. It's just about bringing people together. This is just what we do." Housed in a warehouse away from the madness of the Fort Lauderdale downtown bar scene, Swarm is the place where partygoers go to let loose, listen to an assortment of live music — the lineup is always different — and take in a bit of local art. The Swarm crowd is completely diverse. Nobody cares about your race, musical interests, financial situation, or what you're wearing. It's all about the experience. More >>
http://www.timpanochophouse.net Timpano is located on the block surrounded by Las Olas' chicest and trendiest restaurants. If you want to impress a date with a nice night out in a cozy yet upscale environment with a touch of romantic elegance, Timpano is a good choice. The space has indoor and outdoor seating with tables covered with white tablecloths. The Starlight Lounge, a martini bar, is the place to sip on a lychee martini, dish on dry-aged hand-cut fillet, and soak in the sounds of live jazz. There's a grand baby piano to set the romantic and sophisticated tone. Aside from chops, the menu features classic Italian fare. Also, there are plenty of appetizers around $10 for those who desire a light bite. Locals rave over the black skillet-roasted mussels. More >>
Get hot and sweaty dancing all night with the boys at Torpedo. This gay dance club caters to a mostly younger male crowd, looking to party all night. Each night of the week brings a different DJ, or bring your own music and take the stage on Tuesday nights. More >>
A beachside hideaway for the local drinkers is found within Fort Lauderdale's Treasure Trove. Nautical trimmings and beer knickknacks are scattered along the walls where locals sharing stories occupy the high top tables and barstools. The jukebox fills the room with rock 'n' roll favorites, and the ocean breeze blows through the open-air dive. The bartenders know their patrons by name, and there's never a dry glass in the house. On Tuesdays, the bar is the place to go for an extended lunch break to chow on $1 tacos. Just steps away from the ocean, Treasure Trove is the quintessential place for beachgoers and townies searching for a relaxing night out away from the tourists. More >>
http://www.waxys.com The pub's interior is so authentically Irish, you almost expect a peat fire to be burning. Instead, you'll have to get a glow off the Irish brews on tap, including Harp and Guinness. The fare's a bit inconsistent, comprising American (Buffalo wings), British (bangers and mash), and Irish (oak-smoked salmon) favorites. The Irish standards, particularly the beef stewed with Guinness and served with homemade brown bread, are handled best. Have a nightcap for dessert with whiskey-laced, bread-and-butter pudding. Enjoy an Irish breakfast on weekends. More >>
