http://www.marandofarms.com Chelsea and Fred Marando opened their place in 2009 as a hub for local, organic produce right in downtown Fort Lauderdale. In a few short years, they've grown so much that the farm is supplying restaurants in addition to families. Grab a bag and a pair of scissors at the entrance so you can clip your own herbs and lettuces. Browse the baskets of bright fruits and veggies. Pop inside the general store for beautiful pumpernickel breads, marbled rye, and olive loaves, plus raw milk, homemade preserves, locally roasted coffee, and a vast selection of organic pet food. Want more? Buy into the community-supported agriculture program and get a weekly supply of star fruit, oranges, tomatoes, and such. Or go a step further and get your hands dirty by participating in the community garden on-site. Bring the kids — pigs, chickens, billy goats, and geese (all once abandoned and adopted by the farm) make a miniature petting zoo of sorts. More >>
http://miami.marlins.mlb.com/mia/ballpark/index.jsp Like the chosen moniker for its famous home run statue, some might dub Marlins Park a "Tremenda Mierda" - thanks to owner Jeffrey Loria's success at sinking the city into debt to fund the creation of 37,000 empty seats. But while a trip to this Little Havana venue might reveal disgruntled players and vacant boxes, the stadium itself ain't half bad. From our one-of-a-kind home run monstrosity to the impressive selection of palatable eats, there's plenty to occupy attendees - aside from the obvious bats and balls, that is. Sip a frozen cocktail from the Clevelander and stroll past the gently jiggling bobblehead museum. Snag a BBQ pulled pork sammie from Brother Jimmy's and read up on Orange Bowl history. And if you've got a few minutes to spare, you could always check out an inning or two. That part's optional. Since no one goes to the games, parking's a breeze in the on-site garage or makeshift neighborhood lots. It's also the most sustainable stadium in Major League Baseball, so at least our city's financial ruin wasn't too devastating to the environment. Gotta look at that silver lining, after all. More >>
http://www.shopmedmarket.com Though lamb chops, tenderloin, stone crab, and high-end to-go food is how this Las Olas shop has made its mark, Mediterranean Market offers some of the finest sandwiches you’ve never had. Composed of meat that’s notches above Boar’s Head, the sandwiches steer toward traditional, with elevated quality. Whether it’s an Italian, a ham and Swiss on rye, or roasted vegetables with pesto on a roll, sandwiches are paired with pickles, house-made slaw, and potato salad. Split pea, lobster bisque, curry chicken, and dozens of soups are also available, made in-house from scratch. Although the market may be a darling among yachties and one-percenters, the prices are accessible for Everyman. Take out, eat in the clean, well-lighted place, or grab a table outside in the sun.
