Have you conjured up a graduated cylinder full of emotion? Written poetry alone in your petri dish of an apartment and set it aside forever? If you think you have the chops to write some banging lyrics, then it's time to serve them up in the lab. Lyrics Lab: Poetry, Beats, & Souls is designed to take you out of your shell and give the written word an entirely new life. Specifically designed for creative types, this event is hosted by Ian Caven, who is accompanied by Doug Carter on keys and Anthony Carter on drums -- the Carters are there to turn your words into music. It's two things coming together in a natural environment, just like high school chemistry but better in every conceivable way.
Taking place at the newly refurbished Bailey Contemporary Arts, the space has become a meeting place for those with something to express. Bailey considers one of its primary missions "to serve as a cultural hub to showcase and nurture visual artists, providing work spaces and exhibit space." Through Lyrics Lab every Wednesday night, a new community of artists is being born out of what might otherwise just be words on paper.
Lyrics Lab: Poetry, Beats, & Souls takes place every Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Bailey Contemporary Arts, located at 41 NE First St. in Pompano Beach. Cover is $5 before 7 p.m. and $10 after. Call 561-654-8151, or visit bacapompano.org.
