Listen buddy, if you’re trying to hook up with a tore up mug, you better hope she’s been boozing. Lucky for you, if it’s Saturday night and you’re at the Ugly Mug (5065 W. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach), she probably has. The Ugly Mug is best known for its creepy-as-hell porcelain mugs, each adorned with a weird blue face. The story about the mug is a bit murky (something about ownership changes and busted jibs), but the place itself has been a staple of Delray’s drinking community for nearly 15 years. During that span, the Ugly Mug has built a reputation as the home of Delray’s after party scene. Tonight — tomorrow morning, to be more precise — when Downtown Delray shuts down, everyone will be spilling into the Mug. Eric Stolz, the back bar’s booze slinger, says it’s an event. “At midnight there’s about 50 people,” he says. “By 2:20, it’s no joke.” Stolz estimates the Mug fills to about 300 deep. Ego Tripp keeps you entertained while $5 pitchers and $2.50 imports keep her expectations low (wink, wink).
