South Florida is a haven for the health-conscious and athletically inclined. There isn't really any activity you can't do -- with the exception of snow skiing, but we've got water-skiing, so who needs it? But all that availability can make one a little jaded. When you've done and can do everything. it all starts to lose its novelty. So if you're a yogi whose practice has gotten a little stale or you live to enjoy stand-up paddleboarding but have gotten bored of ocean views, Ocean Om is here with a challenging solution to your athletic (and really First World) problem. Yoga and SUP both engage all those little balancing muscles, and doing yoga on a stand-up paddleboard is the ultimate challenge. It is also the ultimate in peaceful meditation as you finally find your balance and drift lazily, bobbing up and down on the gentle waves, existing completely in the moment. On a paddleboard on the ocean, there's no cell phone, no computer to distract you, and that's good, because if you let your focus drift, you're gonna drift. Ocean Om offers private sessions for groups or individuals, but it also has regular classes. Those set sail from Oar House Restaurant (200 E. McNab Road in Pompano Beach) every Saturday at 9 a.m. and from the Colohatchee Boat Ramp (975 NE 15th Ave. in Wilton Manors) every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., and Friday at 9 a.m. Single classes cost $30 including a board and paddle or $15 if you have your own. Discounts are available on multiclass packages. Reservations are recommended, as floating mat space is more limited than at a tradition studio. Call 954-453-7376, or email email@example.com.
