Look Out: Here Comes Summer

Let’s face it: This is Florida. It’s friggin H to the O-T all year round, so how can you tell when summer is finally upon us? By the shallow seasonal changes? Nope. It’s the smell of BBQ wafting in from backyards all across SoFla that signals the onset of summer. Indeed, there’s nothing like grilled meats, cold beer, and groovy tunes to make the hot (-ter) season a little more bearable, and nobody knows this better than the peeps at Backroom Blues Bar (7200 N. Dixie Hwy, Boca Raton). Every Sunday starting at 3 p.m., they’ll carry on the fine tradition of Sunday BBQ. Five bucks will get you spot on Backroom’s patio, under the shade of a lofty banyan tree, where you can chill, drink brews, and listen to blues guitarist JP Soars, Grateful Dead cover act Crazy Fingers, and a host of random guest musicians jam the day away. As for food, Chef Iggy, the award-winning chef formerly of Alligator Alley, will throw down a spread of tasty grub — BBQ, gumbo, corn on the cob, grilled chicken, and the like, all for just $9 a plate.
