Darbster is a comfortable and pet friendly waterfront eatery in West Palm Beach. It's also proof that eating vegan can be fun but -- more importantly -- tasty. Owners, husband and wife team Allan Gould and Ellen Quinlan, want everyone to feel at home here: the vegetarians, vegans, and organically conscious too. To that end, their chefs provide a host of meat and dairy substitutes to make a wide-ranging menu of delicious eats. That includes the restaurant's Buffalo chicken wings, not poultry but rather delicately fried wedges of Gardein (a vegetable protein) that offer up a juicy, tender bite accented by a dairy-free wing sauce and faux blue-cheese dip. You can't leave without the signature dish, the house palm cakes made from shredded hearts of palm and crusted in panko bread crumbs, served as a sandwich or alone, and best when dunked in the accompanying pine nut aioli. Dining on Darbster's waterside deck is a beautiful experience, especially when augmented with an affordable organic (and often gluten-free) wine and craft beer list, long list of organic teas, and -- of course -- food that tastes as good as it is good for you.
