H.G. Roosters

There's an easy-going kitsch permeating the vibe inside H.G. Rooster's, and it shines throughout all the incredible activities set up seven days a week. On Sunday alone, there's a free barbecue on the patio at 5 p.m., male dancers at 6 p.m., and karaoke at 11 p.m. There's bingo on Mondays (affectionately named Sissy Bingo, with prizes in the form of both bar tabs and cash), chicken wings and karaoke (again!) on Wednesdays, and more babely dancers on Fridays. The drink specials all start after 9 p.m. and are bound to get you giddy: buckets of domestic beer are three for $7 on Tuesdays (when the pool tournament starts), all wells and domestics are $2 on Thursdays, and Long Island iced teas and domestic beers are $3 on Saturdays. There's also the occasional Saturday night cabaret - Saturday Night Divas - featuring drag shows and comedy. The place was founded in 1984 by the late Michael "La La" Brown, an AIDS awareness activist and supporter-slash-member of the local gay community. Now it thrives on his mission and soul: Everyone is welcome - and no one is bored.
