We've always loved Maison Carlos for its nostalgic take on Italian and French "Continental" cuisine, but since the restaurant moved from its longtime Clematis Street spot to new digs at 3010 South Dixie Highway in 2010, we've loved the gourmet-style menu even more. While not much has changed, owners Carlos and Lanie Farias still serve a number of gourmet dishes that include fish, chicken, steak, pasta, and risotto -- but also a few more familiar eats. Fancy appetizers like escargots and soufflé might sound intimidating, but the French Attitude burger topped with caramelized onions and gruyere is more approachable. Still, this remains a special occasion restaurant: less than a dozen tables are set amid an elegant decor with white tablecloths and serviced by jacketed staff. It makes for a great date night, especially when you end the night sharing an order with the kitchen's beloved chocolate mousse, while a lengthy wine lists means you'll find something to pair perfectly with each course, even dessert.
