The major draw at Blacktip Reef is the 2,000-gallon fish tank and the nurse shark that inhabits it – customers never lack for a conversational opening over a brewski. BT somehow retains the spirit of old Florida – the nautical accouterments, wooden tables, seafood menu, and a clientele as comfortable in shorts and flip-flops as designer duds. There’s no pretension here, and the menu ranges from classics like excellent conch fritters to grouper sandwiches, oyster poor boys, and fish tacos. Gussied-up gourmet entrées include strip steaks and grilled tuna, and desserts are down-home: banana bread, ice cream sandwiches. Shark Hour from 4:30 to 7:30 offers half-price cocktails and freshly shucked oysters for $1.25 each.
