That blond bundle of energy behind the bar at this tiny Federal Highway restaurant and bar is longtime Fort Lauderdale bartender Boo Riley. She took over the little red A-frame bar, formerly called Darryl's Bar & Bistro, at Federal Highway and 26th Street last spring with the vision of creating a nonsmoking haven for local fans of the Miami Hurricanes and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Inside, the space has an intimate vibe. Patrons converse across the central bar or dine quietly at tables in an adjacent dining area. Outside, there's a front patio with plenty of seating and a dock out back on the quiet Middle River, where there are several tables. Everything on the menu is made fresh, Riley says. Highlights include "Boo's Appetizer Trio of Jacked Up Ribs, Key Lime Shrimp, and Maryland Lump Crab Cakes ($13.95), the fish Reuben sandwich ($9.75), and crabmeat penne ($12.75). Boo Riley's has six televisions inside, plus two flat screens out on the front patio. During games, get five-for-$10 domestic beer buckets and five-for-$15 import beer buckets. For such a small place, Boo Riley's has a better-than-decent selection of beers on draft, which includes Blue Moon, Sam Adams seasonal, Stella, Yeungling, Coors, and Miller. During the weekday happy hour, from 4 to 8 p.m., select drafts, wells, and wines are offered at discounted prices.
