The swankiest restaurant on a very swank island serves the beautiful people in a luxurious setting, glittering with crystal and fine china and soothed by the background tunes of a piano most nights (a little late-night dancing has been known to break out). This is special-occasion dining for most of us –- an average entrée costs around $38. But if you’re craving caviar, this is the place to eat it; ditto for foie grâs or a superlative plate of escargot Napolean. One signature house appetizer arrives as a quartet of cold soups served in four tiny tureens, each with its own silver spoon. L’Europe also has one of the best wine lists in the world and a sommelier to help you with the thornier issues of which pinot grigio to drink with your asparagus vichysoisse. Sit at the bar and order an appetizer with a glass or two of wine for a more affordable taste of the good life.
