Coal Mine Pizza Critics' Pick

399 SE Mizner Blvd
Boca Raton, FL 33432
561-826-2625
Website
With a full liquor bar and outdoor patio, this coal-fired pizza joint draws crowds. The salads, like the very fine Tuscan made with romaine, white beans, salami, tomato, artichokes, and diced pecorino, are terrific, but you’re here for the pizza, which is well-nigh-perfect. Your thin-crust pie comes puffing and steaming from the coal oven straight to your waiting rack, toothsome, airy, dense, with lovely pockets and black holes and areas of crunch and oily bits – a single slice as varied as a life well lived. Coal Mine makes a fantastic, authentic, New York-style pizza ($19 for a large, $24 for the "Big Dog") – Brooklyn-style; meatball & ricotta; tomato, basil, and homemade mozz; artichoke; arugula -- that ought to bliss-out the crankiest snowbird. And for the wealthy gourmet, black or white truffle pies are market priced.

I chose not to try the pizza at lunch since I was alone and 19.00 for a pie is absurd(15.00 with nothing on it)- go to Anthony's- I opted for Chicken parm- for 17.00 had a chicken breast GRILLED (no breading) covered in mozzarella- service slid downhill as plates were dropped at my table, requested bread which came towards end of meal and dropped on another table in error where the people were eating a pizza- I dont need servers to be my friend but please don't drop and run- as for the chicken parm, stick to pizza if you dont have a chef
