The Perrones have had the Hallandale Beach Italian restaurant business cornered for about 35 years. These days, Louis sees to the front of the house while Frank works the kitchen. Believe it, they’ve got this stuff down, from the frutti di mare -- little dark whelks and tiny whole squid and shrimp tossed with celery, garlic, lemon, and olive oil -- to clams al forno wafting clouds of herb-scented steam and still sizzling under blankets of bread crumbs. Pastas and main plates include dense tubes of al dente penne; brasciola di vitello, a Sunday specialty beloved by generations of Italian-Americans; and a moist, thick pork chop with scarpariello sauce (black olives, pepperoncini, mushrooms, onions, garlic, wine, vinegar, and sweet, spicy Italian sausages) The crème brulée is ecstatic. A sexy piano player sets the mood most nights – expect at least one table to break spontaneously into song.
