India Garden’s expansive menu – like 130 items expansive – takes a trip around India’s varied regions, starting in Kerala and working through Goa, Indo-China, and Sri Lanka. You’ll find familiar dishes in tikki masala and vindaloo and korma right alongside duck vellayappam flavored with toddy, kingfish moilee, cashew-filled chettinadu, pomfret fry, Manchurian chicken, and kottu, a popular street food among club going Sri Lankans. Goan fish curry, a dish as infused with hints of Portugal as coastal India, is loaded with hearty chunks of king mackerel in a piquant and vibrant red sauce that lingered on the tongue pleasantly. That, plus crisp dosai, excellent lassis, and a huge buffet are hard to top, but the number of dishes does lead to problems of consistency, faithfulness to recipe, and service. Yet, for adventurous eaters, India Garden is worth a visit.
