This upscale but comfy Greek restaurant features an outdoor bar and tons of patio space, all the better to accommodate the belly dancers who wend among the tables. The food here is outstanding and inexpensive: Big stuffed grape leaves come filled with minced lamb and rice, draped in lemon sauce, revealing alternating waves of spice, starch, and oil. Spanikopita is an almost ridiculous bargain: $6 for two three-inch rectangles of bliss, the crackling pastry layered with olive oil and bulging with spinach and giant chunks of fresh feta cheese. For an entrée, sample the jumbo shrimp baked in a “secret” sauce, roast leg of lamb, or the delicious gyros wrapped in perfectly pillowy pita. Baklava made from the chef’s grandmother’s recipe entirely restores this maligned dessert to its rightful place in the sugar-lover's pantheon. - Gail Shepherd
