Terrific service, a lively crowd, and an elegant dining room are the highlights of a dinner at Philippe by Philippe Chow in Boca Raton. (Not to be confused with Mr. Chow, another high-end Chinese chain; the two are actually in a long-term legal battle over trademarks.) The sixth outpost of the New York-based chain offers the same fare as its Miami sibling yet costs 30 percent less. A waiter described the cuisine as “traditional Chinese,” and while that’s true, it’s devoid of heat or exoticisms that might intimidate a Western diner. Yet there are plenty of gems, such as the chicken satay, pork soup dumplings, and hand-pulled noodles made in-house (all under $10). The Peking duck is a classic, though it’s a 45-minute wait for a $60 bird. Cosmos, gimlets, and champagne cocktails characterize the drink selection, though at $10 to $15, the prices can be cheap and come with a wait. Happy hour brings relief with half-price drinks and free apps.
