Scopa

2447 E. Sunrise Blvd
Bay Pines, FL 33504
954-650-8058
Chef/owner Daniel Gatto, a transplanted Argentinean with a flair for Italian cooking, took over this space in the International building after many a restaurateur had failed in the same location. But with his talent for running moderately priced, cozy trattorias (he owned Italian restaurants in North Miami), Gatto has survived brilliantly by accumulating regular customers -- from locals to returning tourists -- who love the personal touches that make Scopa (the name is taken from an Italian card game) so expressive and memorable. Creamy carrot soup, paper-thin carpaccio, and an array of spicy antipasti whet the appetite; homemade gnocchi alla vodka and seafood-stuffed cannelloni are standout pasta dishes. Specials like chicken cooked in cherry wine, pork chops with portabellos, and a lineup of familiar dishes such as veal scaloppini and pollo marsala are cooked with panache.
