Just a small, laid-back, counter-serve café tucked into a corner of a building in the Northwood Arts District, this little Caribbean spot has big flavors in its menu items. The casual menu may have ackee and salt cod or oxtail stew or curry goat -- all here at various times. It's takeout, and the owners operate on "no problem!" island time (no set hours -- call ahead and hope they answer). The menu is whatever they feel like cooking, but for your Jamaican fix, it's a good stop. When they're available, the one-handed meat patties go great with ginger beer. Jerk dishes and some barbecue are sometimes on the handwritten menu. Look for stewed green callaloo or sometimes pumpkin but always rice served with whatever fish they're cooking. Owners are chatty and will take orders for catered meals and some requests.
