Sushi Blues Café and Blue Monk Lounge

2009 Harrison St.
Hollywood, FL 33020
954-929-9560
Website
Live blues and otsumami – how hip is that? Hip enough to make Sushi Blues a Friday-night staple for hundreds of happy Hollywoodians, who’ve trekked over to hear the Sushi Blues Avant Jazz Band and a lineup of national acts for years and years now. The Blues is expansive and comfy, with overstuffed couches and chairs, a generous stage, and a sushi bar surrounded by bamboo poles, framed prints, and big picture windows. That sushi bar provides the second half of the equation: barbecued eel and papaya roll, tuna sashimi served on plantain chips with pineapple salsa, filet mignon tataki complemented by slivers of scallions, toasted sesame seeds, and a vibrant Chardonnay-wasabi dip. The sushi here is first-rate, and the funkier, trend-conscious cooked dishes offer combinations of textures and flavors you don't get in more-pedestrian Japanese restaurants.
