Bands like the American Analog Set and even former bombast-and-fury enthusiasts Einstürzende Neubaten are proving that, in the face of media-driven overstimulation, truly daring has become synonymous with quiet and restraint. Not so for California's Bad Acid Trip. The band is on tour with GWAR, so you'd think this joint road trip was the chaos carnival of the freakin' year or something. But Bad Acid Trip has a lot to live up to. Not only is there GWAR's menstrual blood hose to contend with but there's also the name. One can only hope the group's spastic, art-damaged mix of thrash, noise, and theatricality is as powerful as a bad acid trip -- you know, a good kind of bad kind of acid trip -- the kind where your hands are crying and it's raining marshmallow Peeps. BAT has been (seriously) compared to Tears for Fears, so it has that going for it. And it has a sense of humor too. The group's bio reads, "Having developed a false sense of security toward their musical abilities, the band decided it was time to return to the studio." Gotta love that, a self-deprecating kind of bragging. Check out Bad Acid Trip and GWAR at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at the Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $15. Call 954-564-1074.
