Many people love the visceral, passionate explosion in contemporary music that's been called emo, screamo, post-hardcore, and any of a million and one hipster catch phrases. Many of these same people grew up with the original NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). Many of these people love comedy. Enter Horse the Band, a rag-tag bunch of hardcore-loving, post-screamo musicians who use extensive eight-bit video references, quaint-sounding keyboards, and really, really heavy guitars to access the inner depths of modern angst (pronounced with a long a). At long last, these five Orange County boys are here in South Florida so that you can finally cry the way you want to. They play this show with Poison the Well and Criteria, both of whom also exude passionate, heavy music but minus the NES and not so much on the keyboard tip. (P.S.: HtB plays in its underwear a lot. This band may be a joke, but we aren't sure.)

Horse the Band, Poison the Well, Criteria, and the Fall of Troy play Friday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $12. Call 954-564-1074.
