Big Bill's Blues
Big Bill Morganfield has the right lineage. His dad is, after all, the late, great Muddy Waters. Of course, being the son of a legend can be as much of a burden as a benefit living in constant comparison, always being referred to as junior (see: Sean Lennon, Ziggy Marley). But for Morganfield, all it takes is a few listens to convince those predisposed to assumptions of coattail-riding. This dude has the licks to prove his worth, from slide guitar-driven Delta blues to jazzier, Chicago-styled tunes. And though he titled his most recent album Blues in the Blood, Morganfield doesn't have to tell you who his dad was: His guitar does all the talking.
Big Bill Morganfield performs Thursday, October 12, at Alligator Alley, 1321 E. Commercial Blvd., Oakland Park. The first set begins at 8:30 p.m.; the second begins at 10. Tickets cost $12. Call 954-771-2220, or visit www.alligatoralleyflorida.com.
