When the era of millennial electro-rock seemed to be definitively on the wane, the scene's smartest stars stylistically retooled. Among them were three-fifths of the Faint — lead singer Todd Fink, keyboardist Jacob Thiele, and drummer Clark Baechle. Though the group has yet to break up for good, it's been three years since its last full-length, Fasciinatiion. In the meantime, the trio has been recording new tracks and releasing remixes under the name Depressed Buttons, most famously for Diplo's übercool curatorial label Mad Decent. The new sound is a far cry from the Faint's. It's purely electronic, almost entirely vocalless, and usually, appropriate for Mad Decent, sprinkled with global flavor. Their latest mixes have displayed a very au courant predilection for heavy bass and future garage. The act's DJ set at the Green Room's weekly Digital Love party should include plenty of tracks from these genres as well as originals from its debut EP, Qwerty, released in December.
