At this point, it's no secret that the Kottonmouth Kings indulge in all things cannabis. Bona fide stoners who, unlike many of their fellow tokers, have managed to stay busy and creatively peaked. With a handful of albums under its belt collectively (and a few solo ventures), the six-man bong hit continues to bridge the gap between hip-hop and punk rock. (A quick roll call: Lou Dog, Daddy X, D-Loc, Pakelika, DJ Bobby B, and Richter.) Not buckling to the bling that has consumed their peers in genre-crossing bands, the Kottonmouth Kings' attitude is rooted firmly in having a good time. This good time has certainly maintained their independent label, Suburban Noize, as well as a number of tours across the States and Europe. Their latest full-length offer, Koast II Koast, soldiers on the spirit of good will one can find only on a sticky toke or a tight roll.
The Kottonmouth Kings perform with (hed) p.e. and the Subnoize Souljaz on Saturday July 15, at the Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $19.99. Call 954-564-1074, or visit www.cultureroom.net.
