For anyone who hasn't been following at home, the formula of this little column is simple. I pick the cover songs. The local bands wisely choose to heed my advice. Everyone is happy? That is my fantasy, anyhow.
On last week's Part Four I got a little heavy-handed but on today's flight of fancy, I am genial. As usual, your suggestions and/or cover choices are welcome in the comment box below.
Is it The E Band featuring Big Poppa E or is it Big Poppa E and The E Band? I can never get that one right but as far as South Florida blues are concerned you can bet money that these guys deliver the goods. In my opinion nobody delivered the Delta goods better than the sorely missed Junior Kimbrough. The man had a sadness and honesty about his work that gives me goose bumps. This one is one of my all-time favorite tunes.
Junior Kimbrough - "Sad Days, Lonely Nights"
I've been trying a fit for the Getback for years now and their new album, Halfway Home is a scorcher. I think this 1966 gem of regional rock and roll will be an adequate tailoring for these guys.
The Bad Roads - "Blue Girl"
I'm excited by the upcoming album by Serum L'Ouverture, P.C.P. (Pre Campaign Propaganda) and have been having a hard time thinking about him tackling a track because his voice is pretty unique and this could either be awesome or end in disaster. We here at County Grind like awesome (or some would say awesome disasters) so how 'bout this one? And I'm basing this on the horns.
Biz Markie - "Vapors"
Vultures Are Wolves might have their own ideas of how the animal kingdom works but I do suspect that they know how to lay down their souls to the gods of rock 'n' roll. Many have covered this track with varying degrees of success. Maybe these guys can swoop down and snarl the shit out of it? I think so, I think they can.
Venom - "Black Metal"
