There's a day, month, and week to celebrate anything. The "causes" range from the political to the medicinal to the flat-out silly. In August alone, you can observe National Water Quality Month, World Breastfeed Week, National Clown Week, Hobo Week, National Chocolate Chip Day, Kool-Aid Day, and Bad Poetry Day.

None of those, though, with maybe the exception of National Chocolate Chip Day, sounds as fun or tempting as International Beer day, which falls on Thursday, August 5.

Never heard of it? According to internationalbeerday.com, we have Jesse Avshalomov to thank for bringing the world together around the sudsy beverage and Avshalomov, Evan Hamilton, Aaron Araki, and Richard Hernandez for founding it in Santa Cruz three years ago. In fact, there are a few "holidays" celebrating beer. But who's complaining? So, here are a few spots (after the jump) throughout the Broward and Palm Beach areas we recommend:

Stage 84: Known for its open-mic nights, karaoke, and hosting of ultra-local music acts, Stage 84 will toast our gullets Thursday when it unveils a special beer menu for the event. After quenching your thirst, the music café will give your larynx a workout with karaoke that will feature a live band. The event is free and will include a beer pong tournament. Stage 84 is located at 9118 W. State Road 84, Plantation. Call 954-474-5040.

World of Beer: This museum of a bar offers more than 500 beers from around the world on any given night. You won't be able to drink a Budweiser, Miller, or Coors, but if that's your idea of celebrating beer, go to 7-Eleven. World of Beer is located in the Promenade at Coconut Creek at 4437 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek. Call 954-984-0300, or visit wobcoconutcreek.com.

Duck Tavern: Worlds away from the lavish establishments of Boca, Duck Tavern could be the area's closest thing to a dive bar -- but only by Boca's standards. Regardless, the Duck (5901 N. Federal Highway, Boca) is a primo spot to celebrate as it serves countless exotic beers from Chile, Japan, Ethiopia, and Israel, to name just a few. Call 561-998-8288.

Monterey Club: The only Fort Lauderdale venue where you can grab a beer, surf the web, and get a tattoo all at once, Monterey Club will host Zombie Prom Thursday. Although zombies don't seem to conjure up sudsy goodness, patrons can choose from more than 30 beers, including Flying Dog and Victory Brewing Co. as well as cider and wine. Mikey Ramirez of Radio-Active Records will DJ. Admission costs $5 and benefits Promethean Theater. Monterey Club is located at 2608 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-598-1887, or visit the montereyclub.net.

BX Beer Depot: A beer lovers' paradise in the middle of Lake Worth, BX Beer Depot will offer a free Victory Brewing tasting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. BX Beer Depot is located at 2964 Second Ave., Palm Springs. Call 561-965-9494, or visit bxbeerdepot.com.
