Good Night, and Good Luck

ANR says so long.
Colby Katz

New Times is, politically, a nonpartisan newspaper. You've probably noticed that we get off on bugging everybody. Hell, we recently ran an exposé about our own mother's humiliating iced tea addiction and the appalling lack of chocolate chips in her homemade cookies. But when it comes to music, we like to take a stand, and we've always stood with Awesome New Republic. It wasn't that long ago that the Coral Gables duo graced our cover and yours truly proclaimed them the saviors of local rock, or some such giddy fannishness. And now I'm sadly forced to report that ANR is no longer ours. Citing personal reasons over professional ones, the boys are taking their sweet-soul indie-pop junk funk up north, where they'll candy-coat the Big Apple with their special kind of caramel goodness. This is their last gig in town for a while, folks. Time to stand by your band.

Awesome New Republic plays with Dead Hookers Bridge Club and Jesse Jackson at 8 p.m. Sunday, February 11, at Churchill's Pub, 5501 NE Second Ave., Miami. Tickets cost $5. Call 305-757-1807.
