Studies indicate that rap-metal ages about as well as pig slop in the sun. But that hasn't stopped venerable Fort Lauderdale combo Collapsing Lungs from reuniting every few years or so to wallow in it. Back in the Spooky Kids days -- "before Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park made it big," boasts the band -- the Lungs welded heavy metal to industrial rock and served it up on South Florida stages until disbanding in the mid-'90s. Late last year, when the band (featuring members of the Mary Tyler Whores and Irish Car Bomb) played the Culture Room after a decade's absence, 600 fans showed up and Collapsing Lungs decided to re-form for real. Don't look now, Fred Durst, but the culling is coming.

Collapsing Lungs perform at 9 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Music Factory, 2674 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-564-7625.
