It’s another Friday night in South Florida, and you want to get wasted and go dancing. Instead of hitting up another tired club, check out the Vintage Tap for Lake Worth’s gypsy trash and folk group Jangle Leg, which is throwing a foot-stompin’, swamp-rockin’ party to celebrate the release of their debut EP, Half Way There.
The release coincides with the Lake Worth band's one-year anniversary as a five-piece, and lead singer Chuck Callaway says much has progressed for them musically. Starting out as a one-man band in 2012, Jangle Leg morphed into the Janglin’ Duo with banjo player Felix Maldonado. In those days, Callaway found had much more work to do as a musician, operating many instruments at once. But now, with five members, he can sit back a bit.
“Until this project, every band that I had ever been in I was just playing somebody else’s songs or jumping in the band for somebody else’s tour,” says Callaway, a longtime fixture in the South Florida music scene. “So now I’m the one who’s leading, holding the reins in my hand, and watching these other guys and what they can do. It just blossomed into something that I couldn’t have done by myself.”
The EP combines lyrics that reference those what-the-hell-happened-last-night moments with classic, growling blues guitar riffs, powerful one-two drum beats and Callaway’s raspy vocals. It's all sure to get your ass out of your seat and your feet stomping.
Recorded at Absent Heart Studios in West Palm Beach, Half Way There was originally named for half of the ten full-length album songs being finished, but now the LP will most likely have 13. Six other songs will be featured during the show, along with a few covers.
For your imbibing pleasure, Vintage Tap will be featuring Lagunitas Sucks — a limited release Brown Shugga Subsititute Ale — at the bar. Jjack’s Grill Food Truck will be serving up the grub, and fire dancers will be grooving in the backyard.

Once the EP release is finished, Callaway and crew will jump back into the studio to begin recording for the LP. But, right now, it's time to celebrate accomplishments.
“It sounds incredible,” he says. “It sounds a lot better than it’s gonna sound, unless you’re drunk at the show.”
