Journey at Cruzan Amphitheatre, September 18
Journey will never die — not as long as there are barroom jukeboxes and arenas alike that will benefit from some fist-pumping (and probably slightly drink-sodden) sing-alongs. As proof, consider the fact that the group's seminal mainstream hit, "Don't Stop Believin'," is iTunes' top-selling catalog track ever. That one song, though, tends to overshadow the rest of the band's powerhouse history, which includes a string of seven multiplatinum albums between 1978 and 1987.
Fans too don't even seem bothered that the original, otherworldly voice on those tracks is no longer the one they'll hear live. Since 2007, the band's been fronted by the much younger Arnel Pineda, a Philippines national that the group famously discovered via YouTube. Pineda has proved more than capable of replicating Steve Perry's vocals, though, while adding a touch of his own flavor and lighting up the stage with a true rock star's command.
