More Ways to Help Mend a Heart: NFG Photo Prints, Benefit Show Friday at the Talent Farm

​If you missed it last week, please read our post last week on Help Mend a Heart, the social network effort to help save the life of Maureen Waters. After battling a flu for several days, the day after Thanksgiving, she was rushed to the hospital with what turned out to be a serious heart infection. With only 10 percent of her heart functioning, Waters battles for survival as she waits for a heart transplant. Sadly, she has no insurance as earlier this year she was laid off from her job at a mortgage company, and eventually her COBRA ran out.

Where Waters is extremely fortunate, though, is that she has some of the most loving, loyal, talented children a mother could hope for. The most famous of the Pundik children is Jordan, the singer of local pop-punkers made good, New Found Glory. And thanks to the wide pull of that band, benefit shows and sales are popping up across the country to help Maureen. 

Here are two things you can do to help support, locally, besides donate money on the site -- or pray, as the family has requested. First, frequent Crossfade/New Times photographer Ian Witlen has set up thecameraclicks.com/mendaheart, selling special limited-edition, eight by ten prints of his photos from the recent secret NFG show at Solid Sound Studios. There are six different shots to choose from, and each costs $40 or $45 including shipping. All of the money after printing costs goes to the Pundik family.

Second, family friends have set up a benefit show this Friday at the Talent Farm, featuring local hardcore and punk staples Hivemind, Fallen from the Sky, Bishop, Every You, and Take the Town. There's also a raffle at the show with prizes donated by local companies like Eulogy Recordings, True Love Tattoo, FriendsWithYou, and a million others. The show costs just $10 at the door, and again, all proceeds go to Waters' medical fund. 

Finally, Twitter has restored @HelpMendaHeart after suspending it due to "suspicious activity." Follow the account for updates on the fundraising efforts and Waters' health, and if you tweet about this post or the subject in general, use the hash tag #HelpMendaHeart.
