Native South Floridian Roberto Lange is a busy guy.  Aside from having his fingers in the production pot, working with indie up-and-comers like School of Seven Bells, he is also has been known to work with Prefuse 73. And just this past summer, he put out an album of his own on Asthmatic Kitty Records (Sufjan Stevens, Cryptacize), under the moniker of Helado Negro.  That album, Awe Owe, has been getting acclaim up and down the blog world for its beautifully textured indie take on Brazillian Tropicalia and other sounds that Lange picked up growing up in Fort Lauderdale. It proves that Lange is a craftsman when it comes to musical notes.

Of course, a true artist's work is never done, and Lange has recently teamed up with visual artist and sound sculptor David Ellis to donate a piece of art to the Lotus House, a non-profit in Overtown that helps homeless women and infants. They'll appear together at the organization's upcoming Hope Blossoms fundraiser on October 16 at the Margulies warehouse in Wynwood.

Lange says the piece is "still evolving" and both he and Ellis "spent two days in Miami recording sounds at the Lotus House, gathering source material in a sense." That leads me to believe that the end result might turn out to be something special. Lange has displayed in a short time that he is an artist of rare talent, who truly understands the medium in which he works.

Get a free MP3 of his song "Espuma Negra," as well as all details of his upcoming gig at the Margulies warehouse, after the jump.
