Stow another South Floridian entry in the blogger-darling chillwave file with Sumsun. Back in March, this hypnotic, retro-leaning dance act signed to Los Angeles-based label Leaving Records -- a subsidiary of Alpha Pup, which houses Daedelus, Busdriver, Solillaquists of Sound and Nosaj Thing.
West Palm Beach native Judson Rogers is the brainchild behind this electro wizardry. With the help of vocalist Beverly Russell, Rogers yields fragile, slightly over modulated-sounding, beautifully nebulous numbers.
It's atmospheric, moderately-paced stuff that overlaps with our other
local electro-haze hero MillionYoung.
Russell's angelic, soulful croon provides Rogers' songs a touch of
organic vibrancy. Brother has been busy too, besides the Leaving Records
deal, a double A-side single, "Ants"/"Capella", is due on cassette on
the London label Wolf Tapes
in early June, and Japanese label Moamoo will be
releasing Rogers and Russell's collaborative effort Lake Life in
July.
His Leaving Records' U.S. debut is set for a July release date on
cassette and vinyl. In the meantime, check out tropically-infused
concoction of "Leaving You," a perfect soundtrack for the glimmering
lazy summer days ahead.
