Ace local booking source the Honeycomb brings massive, nationally-touted reggae ensemble, iLa Mawana to Boca Raton's the Funky Buddha on Saturday. This rhythmic roots-reggae, nine-piece extravaganza was named one of the top 100 Hottest Unsigned Acts last year by Music Connection magazine. By the sound of the band's steady dub guitar licks, alluring off-beats and warm horn section punches, listeners will be most surprised to find out that this Rasta riddim-loving group hails not from Kingston, Jamaica but from Boston, Massachusetts.

Its modern take on beachside island fare -- think a Lee Scratch Perry and Jack Johnson offspring -- has made iLa Mawana one the standouts from the Northeast's jam band scene.  The group, who has shared the stage with the likes of  Burning Spear, the Original Wailers, Toubab Krewe and Spiritual Rez, will perform in the sparkling new confines of the Funky Buddha's starting at 10 p.m. this Saturday night.
