So you're a big Billy Joel fan and you feel the sincerity of Elton John, yet you haven't checked out local (by way of the world) phenomenon Brendan O'Hara and the Humble Ones? Stop sleeping it! O'Hara has had a long trip from the outskirts of NYC to Portland to L.A. to Miami, via highways, byways, and parts unknown. He has busked; acted; thought about selling out but decided against it; released a critically acclaimed, self-produced solo record, 2003's One Take Times; and is now out with a new full-length collection of piano-driven melodic numbers, this year's Perception Inception. His lyrics speak of love, politics, drinking, and life; all are woven together by O'Hara's songwriting craftsmanship and performed with honesty and intensity by his band. Don't write off this Miami gem.

Brendan O'Hara and the Humble Ones play at 10 p.m. Friday, October 21, at Sneaker's, 112 20th Ave., Hollywood. The show is free. Call 954-925-9116.
