Miami's Ex-Norwegian channels power-pop of the past. |
Sunday:
Sunday is the only day that doesn't include a local act: All Get Out (Charleston, SC.), The Ocean is Theory (Atlanta), and Scouts (Kansas City). All Get Out blends melodic and fuzzy indie rock. Lots of synths and soft guitars occasionally evoke the Shins, but in a much poppier way. The Ocean is Theory have an emo-alternative sound as if they mashed the early 1990s with the last two years of the Warped Tour. The Scouts are a cool indie surf band that vacillate between a poppier, hopeful sound and more heavy-handed alternative like that on "The One Hundred Acre Woods At Night."
Monday:
Lake Worth's Kill Now?! will play.
Tuesday:
Bubble co-owner Garo Gallo fronts Dooms De Pop, the progressive-indie trio from Fort Lauderdale whose music mixes punk-tempo aggression with carefully crafted prog rock. One of my favorite local bands, they bring the energy of punk without being sloppy.
Wednesday:
I saw BonnieRiot at the band's first show about three weeks ago at Propaganda. They were the Sno Cones then. They played impressive covers of one of their obvious musical influences, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and ably transitioned to original material, which tapped raw rock 'n' roll as well as a more melody-driven sound reminiscent of Incubus. The lead singer has really great stage presence and, for how new they are to performing, they display a real musical compatibility.
Thursday:
Stampede (Deerfield) and the Robotnix (Coconut Creek) will play.
Friday:
Pompano rock band Band no. 12, which features former Dashboard Confessional member Dan Bonebrake on bass, will play with Boca garage rockers The Pretty Faces and hardcore Fort Lauderdale group No Class Action for one of the best lineups of the week.
Saturday:
Another great lineup will close the week with Boca rappers of the undead Zombies! Organize!!, sexy-indie rockers The Freakin Hott, and the non-Scandinavian Miami pop-indie band Ex Norwegian.
