Put It on Vibrate
After beating up on the '60s generation for its "Never trust anyone over 30" mantra, punk rock itself has entered its third decade as bands like the Vibrators celebrate their 30th b-days. So can we trust them? Well, yeah much more so than the major-label-sucking pop-punk bands of today. The Vibrators' first two albums, Pure Mania and V2, deliver more pogo punch than a dozen whiny Green Day clones. And though the V's released another 12 full-lengths over the years, their live show does not skimp on the classics ("Whips and Furs," "Automatic Lover"). So yes, you can trust some people over 30. But, as Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren once said, "Never trust a hippie."
The Vibrators join Fashion Fashion and the Image Boys, and the Stay Hitt Sunday, October 8, at Maguire's Hill 16, 535 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $9. Call 954-764-4453, or visit www.lowfidelityevents.com.
