Return to Planet E

Nothing about Friday night's party at Revolution, presented in part by South Florida rave-scene stalwarts Culture, is forward-looking. Take the party's deliciously '90s-trip-tastic flier: It boasts, near the top, that it's "at the old Edge building with the old Edge hours!" For everyone under, oh, 27 years old, the Edge was what Revolution was called two venues ago (there was an in-between stint as the Chili Pepper). It remains legendary among old-school heads as the cradle of South Florida's golden-era underground party scene, where you could catch legends like Plastikman before they blew up further.

It's understandable why memories of those days give people the warm fuzzies, so the decidedly retro nature of Return to Planet E is forgivable. In fact, rather than viewing it as stubborn nostalgia, think of it as a push by promoters to return to the scene's core values of dancing in a friendly, no-bullshit environment until the wee hours. The music is all breaks, breaks, and more Florida breaks, with Orlando's kingpin DJ Icey headlining and South Florida classics Mike Sharpe, Stryke, Merlyn (but no Ash-Rock?!), and Rob Bates supporting. And yes, they'll be observing traditional rave hours: The party goes until 8 a.m. For the greater good, we suggest calling a cab home. A
