Although based in sunny Fort Lauderdale, the foursome of Mad Rockets channel the grit of Motor City in their dirt-under-the-fingernails brand of rock and roll. It's easy to tell where the band's musical heart lies just by the players' pseudonyms: frontman Jinx, guitarist/vocalist Sonic Jim, bassist Todd Damour, and drummer Brian Damage. Tattooed to the gills and favoring a Johnny-Thunders--circa-Chinese Rocks fashion sense, these guys clearly took a page from the MC5/Faces/Dead Boys/Dictators book and doused it with some more whiskey and general Florida brain damage. That's a good thing, folks.

Sharing the bill are Broward live faves the Freakin Hott, who also mine a similar grimy-glitter-and-bubblegum vein. They, however, feature some added sugar and spice in the form of frontwoman/tambourine gal Maggie.

Mad Rockets and the Freakin Hott, Friday, March 13. Radio-Active Records, 1930B E. Sunrise Blvd., Ft. Lauderdale. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. All ages. 954-762-9488; myspace.com/radio_active_records
