Say Anything isn't just the name of the vaguely punkish indie-rock band from Los Angeles; it's also the band's credo. Anyone who heard Say Anything's ...Is a Real Boy is familiar with vocalist Max Bemis' impassioned rants against pop culture. But when Alternative Press magazine ran a missive by Make Believe's Tim Kinsella — in which Kinsella group-dissed every band featured in AP's August issue — Bemis stuck up for his generation, posting a response on Say Anything's website. But even if Bemis didn't take Kinsella's bait, Say Anything's music holds its own against such attacks. More power-pop than pop-punk (and definitely not emo), Say Anything... is a real band, despite the make-believe delusions of some bitter indie rocker.

Say Anything performs Sunday, October 22, at Revolution, 200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $11.50 to $14. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with Mewithoutyou, Piebald, and Days Away. Call 954-727-0950, or visit www.jointherevolution.net.
