Sing a Simple Song

If you're like me, there have been a thousand nights when you've watched some caterwauling hack destroy a good band with bad singing and thought, "Dude, even I can sing better than that." Hopefully, you've got more balls than most and would actually be willing to prove it with a little Punk Rock Karaoke. The concept is simple: Local all-star slop-rockers the Hooples have developed a set list of 20 or so cover tunes — Iggy and the Stooges, the Dead Boys, the Who, the Ramones, and other beloved underground classics — and will offer you — yeah, you — the chance to bust a lung on vocal duties. Start practicing now, Champ, to make sure you don't let your legions of fans down. And if Amateur Night isn't enough to ring your bell, stick around for Humbert, South Florida's favorite WTF-pop collective, who's tuning up for a return to Austin, Texas, and the manic mingle of South by Southwest. We're gonna show 'em how we do in the Nerdy South.

Punk Rock Karaoke starts at 9 p.m. followed by Humbert at 11 p.m. Tuesday, February 28, at Revolution, 200 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $5. Call 954-277-0750.
