Not even Satan's minions could keep Hurricane Frances at bay back in September. Her wrathful weather prevented Ozzfest 2004 from reaching South Florida. The seas are calmer now, but Slayer most certainly is not, bringing its devilishly decadent speed metal to the far more intimate confines of Revolution, where weaklings like minister Bob Larson will have nowhere to hide. Fast enough to avoid the La Brea pits but every bit as beastly as its namesake, Mastodon's overwhelming hardcore is bottom-heavy and brutal, what with all those furious drum fills and sore-throat screaming. Just watch those tusks. -- Jeff Stratton
