South Florida According to Brooklyn: Spring Break Is Here

Spring break is here, and the streets of South Beach are filled with jackasses. I've noticed more and more as I get older and wiser, that the people who come here from out of town care less and less about what they're doing to themselves or each other on spring break. This was true when I lived and worked in Ft. Lauderdale, and it's true now that I live in South Beach. Back when I was that age I thought it was fun for everybody to go out and wild out and have a good time, but now a lot of kids don't realize that there are real consequences as well.
For instance, I'm hanging out in front of my friend's bike shop the other day on 9th Street. All of sudden I see some spring breakers start yelling at a driver of a taxi cab for no reason, "Get out of the car, you fucking pussy, so I can pound your face in." You ask, why do I know they were on spring break? They kept screaming, "We don't give a fuck, we're on spring break!"
Seriously, is that what college kids do now? I didn't give it much thought ten years ago. I apologize to anyone to whom I ever did anything bad during spring break, or when I was a drunken mess when I was younger. It's just really upsetting to see these kids have a total disregard for wherever they are.
Nowadays, you really can't do or say anything towards those people, because they're so quick to try to press charges against you for doing something to protect yourself or your property. For the small businesses on the beach, it's a matter of protecting themselves. These people come in in a drunken mess and make problems, but the second a business owner defends himself, then he's at fault and getting sued and whatnot.
Five Albums I'm Listening To This Week: 1) Darkest Hour, Hidden Hands of the Saddest Nation. 2) A Death For Every Sin, In A Time Hope is Lost. 3) Shai Hulud, A Profound Hatred of Man. 4) Madball, Set It Off. 5) Minus the Bear, Planet of Ice
Quote of the Week: "We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future." -- George Bernard Shaw
I'm not sitting here don't have a good time on spring break, it's your right. Those students work their asses off all year to let loose for a week, and there's nothing wrong with that. But no matter where it may be, in South Beach or in Ft. Lauderdale or even Daytona, have respect for where you are. There are people who actually do live there and care about where they live. Take those things into consideration, that's all I'm saying. And of course, be careful and don't drink and drive. It's not worth spending your spring break vacation in jail.
