You've probably heard Mike Clark's drumming without even knowing it. Clark originally broke out in the 1970s, when he joined forces with Herbie Hancock to form the Headhunters, the top-selling jazz group of all time. Still not familiar? Well, you may have heard Clark's samples in your favorite hip-hop and pop singles. As one of the funkiest improvisational drummers around, he's also one of the most sampled. He's collaborated live and in the studio with some of the finest musicians in the world, and his latest touring act is no exception. Led by Clark's drumming expertise, Mike Clark's Prescription Trio includes Robert Walter (of jazz fusionistas Robert Walter's 20th Congress and Greyboy Allstars) on keyboards and Jeff Coffin (Béla Fleck and the Flecktones) on saxophone. So listen: You've been looking a little light in the funk lately. Doctor says to stop by the Bamboo Room's pharmacy and get a prescription of hard-swinging hip-shake.
Mike Clark's Prescription Trio plays at 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23, at the Bamboo Room, 25 S. "J" St., Lake Worth. The show costs $25 plus tax. Call 561-585-2583.
