The Deep End
Ravenous electronica fans probably won't be satisfied, even though Ultra Music Festival has expanded into two electro-filled days. From a partier's standpoint, it just means there's more debauchery to locate when the Cure leaves the stage Friday night until the festival reopens on Saturday morning. While there's guaranteed to be a slew of afterparties to fill that time slot, the Future Sound of Breaks, held at Area 51, just a block away from Bayfront Park, should be the best of them all.
The yearly event first rocked Ultra attendees in 2003 and has since spawned a number of sister events across the country, as well as a breaks compilation CD sharing the same name. Now in its fifth incarnation, this year's FSOB should be killer, with more than three dozen DJs including Florida boys DJ Icey, DJ Craze, and Scratch D performing across four super-sized rooms. Headlining the joint is breaks legend Uberzone. Best known for his wall-of-sound style and electronic tinkering, the old-school guru is taking the stage to celebrate the release of his first album in five years, Ideology. Expect the United Kingdom to be represented as well, with sets from Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts, and CTRL Z. Rest assured, this 12-hour soiree lets out in time for the second day of Ultra just remember to bring a change of clothes with you. Future Sound of Breaks 5.0 takes place Friday, March 23, at Area 51, 950 SE Second Ave., Miami. Doors open at 10 p.m. Tickets cost $30. Call 866-926-8499, or visit www.futuresoundofbreaks.com.
