The Deep End
To Americans, Oakenfold, Sasha, and Digweed were British dance ambassadors. Truth is, their homeland has always sprawled with like-minded, big-time talent. One glaring example is the aptly named Tall Paul, a 20-year veteran of the 1s and 2s. Already a DJ for his dad¹s club, Turnmills in London, at age 16, the six-foot, six-inch Paul ventured into pirate radio with his own Touchdown FM station, eventually gaining exposure and his first residency in 1990.
While others were reveling in high-energy rave euphoria, Paul was busy honing his now-familiar hard-house sounds in gay and straight clubs. Later gigs at renowned Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, and Cream (megaparties in London and Ibiza) cemented his high-profile status, which has carried him from Japan to Argentina. With countless compilations, remixes for acts like New Order and Stone Roses, and global hits like ³Rock Da House² to his credit, Paul has turned entrepreneur with his Duty Free Recordings imprint. With a label, a studio, and a weekly radio show, Paul still finds time to grace South Florida with his reverberating anthems.
Tall Paul brings the house down from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday, February 24, at Voodoo Lounge, 111 SW Second Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $20 advance, $25 at the door. Visit VooDooLounge.com or call 954-522-0733.
