Nia Devine's sultry voice and the entire ensemble of The Methodaires has been missed from the Poor House's sound system these last two years. Drawing a pretty ska picture that is more akin to original ska, rocksteady, soul and reggae; there's still enough danceable pull that the ska-punk kids welcome them into the big void left in the South Florida ska scene. And there's talk of an EP coming soon too.
They remind me of King 7 and the Soulsonics and Jive Step Bunch. Maybe even The Monjees but with less weed. Anyways, the promise of a proper return is here and while suits and pork-pie hats won't be enforced, dancing surely will.
Check out a little video after the jump in which the quality is not so great, but their cover of Dawn Penn's "You Don't Love Me (No No No)" is on point, quality be damned!
The Methodaires at 11 p.m. on Saturday, August 28th at the Poor House, 110 SW 3rd Ave, Ft. Lauderdale. No cover! 21+. Call 954-522- 5145.
